Raspberry, under tunnel

FraiseBec celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2023! From the very beginning, our family business has stood out for the quality of its berries, which have earned it a reputation among Quebecers who love them! Always eager to meet the evolving needs and desires of local consumers, we are continually seeking innovations that showcase our delicious products.

So, what better way to celebrate our anniversary than to share with you our love for… raspberries! Of course, we’ve been growing this magnificent berry for a long time, but our passion for it has grown particularly strong in recent years, thanks to new processes that make it shine like never before.

Raspberry has free rein!

With its sweet and slightly tangy taste, the raspberry possesses a very distinct personality. Its delicate, velvety flesh combined with its rich, deep color gives it an unparalleled elegance. Round and small, it has the air of a candy that its fans find hard to resist! While the popularity of its “sister” is undeniable, it goes without saying that this small, contrasting fruit can only be proud! More than ever, the raspberry has free rein at FraiseBec.

Like any self-respecting star, this superb berry sometimes presents a few challenges. Its texture, although firm, is often fragile. Sensitive to wind and rain, as well as excessive heat, raspberries require constant care.

Fruitful raspberry!

This is why FraiseBec has adopted tunnel production, meaning our raspberry plants can now grow protected from anything that could prevent our succulent fruits from blooming to their full potential. Unlike a conventional greenhouse, tunnels are not closed on the sides. Our raspberry plants therefore benefit from a favorable climate and the pollinating activity of their precious allies, pollinating insects, while being protected from bad weather and morning dew. This way, our raspberry plants offer greater productivity and can be harvested at the optimal time of day. An additional benefit of this production method, but not the least, is the extension of the season—always too short!—for this exceptional little fruit.

True to its innovative approach, FraiseBec has also adopted pot cultivation, a technique that produces absolutely remarkable yields. This method imported from Europe, also called soilless cultivation, allows us to effectively overcome the constraints and other mood swings of Quebec’s weather; a major advantage! More raspberries for longer, with the same exquisite taste that seduces the taste buds: the future of our favorite little berry is flourishing!

Kwanza
This variety stands out for its taste, large, light-colored fruits, and high yield. The raspberries barely change color after harvest and retain their quality and firmness. They also keep well.

Polka
As its name suggests, this raspberry comes from Poland. Its large, bright red, glossy fruits, which offer excellent yields, are harvested early in early autumn.

Pathfinder
This favorite of Quebec growers is a highly productive, everbearing variety that blooms in August. It produces large, pale red raspberries that are as firm as they are flavorful.
