Our Raspberries
FraiseBec celebrated its 40th birthday in 2023! From the very beginning, our family business has been known for the quality of its berries, a famous Québec treat for fans who gobble them up! We’re always trying to respond to local consumers’ evolving needs and desires, so we’re continually looking for innovative methods to make the most of our delicious products.
So, what better way is there to mark our birthday than by sharing with you our love for… raspberries! It’s true that we’ve been growing these magnificent berries for years now, but our passion for them has grown even more recently thanks to new processes that make them more desirable than ever.
The Fields Are Alive With Raspberries!
Raspberries, with their sweet yet slightly tart flavour, have their own distinct personality. Their delicate, velvety flesh combined with their deep, rich colour gives them an unmatched air of elegance. They’re small and round, and they look like tiny candies that their fans just can’t resist! Their “sister’s” popularity may be hard to deny, but it goes without saying that these berries blush not with embarrassment, but with pride! More than ever, FraiseBec’s fields are alive with raspberries.
Just like any self-respecting diva, this superb berry can be somewhat challenging. Its texture is firm but often fragile. Raspberries are sensitive to wind, rain and excessive heat, and they require constant care.
A Fruitful Fruit!
This is why FraiseBec nurtures its raspberries under a tunnel, where our raspberry canes can grow sheltered from anything that might prevent our succulent fruits from attaining their full potential. Unlike conventional greenhouses, tunnels aren’t closed on the sides. Our raspberry canes have the advantage of a favorable climate and are pollinated by their valued insect allies, yet are protected from bad weather and the morning dew. In this way, our raspberry canes are more productive, and harvesting can occur at the best time of day. Another advantage of this mode of production, and not the least important, is that it extends the season — which is always too short! — for this exceptional berry.
Constantly seeking innovation, FraiseBec has also started to grow raspberries in pots. This technique gives an absolutely phenomenal yield. It’s a method imported from Europe, also known as soilless cultivation , and allows us to efficiently bypass the constraints and moods of Québec weather. That’s quite an advantage! More raspberries for longer, with the same exquisite taste that tickles your tastebuds: our favorite berry has a flourishing future!
Fresh and Local
Thanks to FraiseBec, your local raspberries will be available until fall. Whether you enjoy them freshly picked, made into jam, at breakfast or for dessert, raspberries from Québec are the freshest you’ll find anywhere! Try the Polana , a variety that yields loads of large, tasty and firm berries. Or succumb to the temptation of the sweet Kwanza, pale red in colour, which yields round, lustrous fruit that keeps very well.
Make your summer last with FraiseBec!
